Blackstone
I landed a juicy role on the new television series, Blackstone, which is produced by Prairie Dog Film & Television out of Edmonton. The first season was shot this summer, and it is to be broadcast on APTN and Showcase in the new year. You may have seen the pilot last year, starring Eric Schweig, and Carmen Moore. It was such a success, the television series was born. It is about the nasty politics on a reserve, and I'm married to the crooked Chief!

A Windigo Tale
A Windigo Tale – I was in the feature film, A Windigo Tale, written and directed by Armand Ruffo, which premiered at the imagineNATIVE Film & Media Arts Festival as the Closing Night screening on October 24th, 2010. The film was also selected to open the 35th Annual San Francisco American Indian Film Festival on November 5, 2010. A Windigo Tale was nominated for 3 major awards at the AIFF, including Best Picture, Best Actor, (for Gary Farmer) and Best Actress, (for…me). The awards take place on November 13th. I will be performing as well.

Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards
I’ve been nominated for a rather prestigious category at the APCMAs this year: “Female Entertainer of the Year.” My first music video, Evergreen, produced by Big Soul Productions and directed by Tony Hrynchuk, is also up for “Best Video. The Manito Ahbee festival takes place in Winnipeg every year, and the awards are on November 4 & 5th, 2010. Wish me luck.

Sparkle: An Evening with Andrea Menard
Sparkle TV Show

Over the Christmas holidays, my latest film project will air on APTN. Watch for my television holiday special, called Sparkle: An Evening with Andrea Menard. And it is exactly that…an evening of my music, my friends and family, and my stories. It was produced by Wabunganung Film Company out of Toronto and Winnipeg.

This 70-minute special will be broadcast on APTN on Dec. 22, 23, 25, 26, & 27, 2010. Check your local listing times.

Orchestrations
I recently received a Canada Council grant to orchestrate 10 of my original songs. Robert Walsh, my co-writer, and I have chosen a few of our favourite songs as well as a few new jazz songs to be arranged for a 30-piece orchestra. My Velvet Devil fans are going to love the lush sound of a full orchestra supporting me! The arrangements are spectacular!
I have been in talks with both the Saskatoon and Regina Symphonies here in Saskatchewan, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, for the 2011/2012 seasons. So far, only talks, but I hope to be taking this new adventure across Canada and beyond over the next couple of years.
